What will happen?

After shaking and resting, will it form layers?

A simplified, sped-up model. Real mixtures and settling times vary.

THE BIG IDEA

What is happening?

Oil and water do not mix well. Small oil droplets spread when shaken, then join together again. Most common cooking oils float above water because they are less dense.

Simplified model: The settling time is sped up. The models compare cooking oil, water, vinegar and soap qualitatively.

Questions to explore

What can I discover?

Oil and water do not mix well. Small oil droplets spread when shaken, then join together again. Most common cooking oils float above water because they are less dense.

Is this exactly like a real experiment?
